Soho Restaurant Carom re-invigorated by new look

By James Russell: Soho Restaurant Carom re-invigorated by new look

August 22, 2014

Following a successful four years serving award-winning cuisine in the heart of Soho, pan-Indian restaurant Carom is unveiling a brand new interior this month. Refreshed and reinvigorated, Carom also retains its characteristics as a cosy, casual and welcoming dining destination offering authentic pan-Indian cuisine and creative cocktails in the heart of Soho.

Located in the landmark building, 100 Wardour Street, guests will be transported from the bustling streets of Soho to a cool and relaxed industrial-inspired space re-designed by AM Creative.

Accented with luxurious features and atmospheric lighting, the 250-cover restaurant will be split into five main areas for guests to enjoy: the Sofa Lounge, the Atrium Lounge, the Communal Dining Table, the Dining Room and Private Dining Room, all of which will boast a new soft metallic colour palette of brushed gold, silver and copper, with subtle hues of dusky blue. Contrasting raw textures and natural materials will be accentuated with decadent fabrics and antique finds throughout, providing a unique ambience perfect for dining, drinking and socialising.

A communal dining table of amber-veined marble will be the focal point of the restaurant, along with a Sofa Bar located in the centre of the venue. Awash with hidden lighting to showcase the natural slate walls, it is perfect for casual communal dining. Bronze and crystal antique chandeliers twinkle above, surrounded by comfortable lounge-style seating and eclectic bistro chairs for dining. The Atrium Lounge will be furnished with a large ‘raw edge’ timber table, with cut-glass candle holders and cosy upholstery in tactile, neutral fabrics.

Updated classic Carom menu

Executive head chef Vishnu Natarajan has updated the classic Carom menu, adding a selection of new plates focused on sharing while socialising. A unique and dramatic Navagraha dish inspired by Hindu astrology is the perfect sharing-style dining experience: featuring nine sample-sized curry dishes to represent the nine planet and lunar nodes that make up Navagraha, the platter will including Shalgam lamb, Alleppy prawn curry and Paneer saffrani among others, served in antique-styled, hand-hammered copper tableware.

Vishnu has also created an authentic and excellent value tasting menu, including four courses with matching wine for £45 per person; dishes include Chilli squid and Juniper chicken tikka.

The Atrium Bar

Carom’s new cocktail menu curated by Head bartender Massimo Bosio can be enjoyed in the Atrium Bar alongside a selection of Indian bar snacks. Including Indian-inspired creations such as Bombay Treacle Club (£14), an intriguing blend ofAmrut Indian whiskey stirred with coriander, ginger, and apple, and Chutney Cooler (£10.50) using Boudier Saffron gin shaken with homemade chutney, passion fruit puree, lemon juice and ginger ale, guests can also enjoy short and strong cocktails such as an exotic Fig and Mandarin Martini with Stolichnaya Elite, fig liqueur, Mandarin Napoleon and St Germaine elderflower liqueur as well as herb-infused tipples like Rosemary Smash, blending Plymouth gin with peach liqueur, fresh lemon, rosemary, maple syrup and bitters.
