IWM London, part of the Imperial War Museums, has reopened after a four year, £40 million major redevelopment that includes a brand new Atrium space designed by Foster+Partners.
The Atrium is probably the most spectacular of the museum’s spaces with 25-metre high ceilings and a vast collection of rare and dramatic exhibits (from a Battle of Britain Spitfire to a Harrier jet used in Afghanistan), and numerous other phenomenally impressive and evocative large-scale displays, including missiles, tanks, artillery, torpedoes, large vehicles, submarines and an armoured car.
Two new cafes
Peyton and Byrne have signed a seven-year contract to operate the two new Cafés in the ‘new’ museum space with the striking reconfigured Atrium at the heart of the building with new terraced galleries rising up on either side filled with large object displays.
The new 144-seat ground floor Café has an outdoor seasonal terrace overlooking the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park with seating for a further 92. A second smaller Tea Room will be on the first floor of the museum, adjacent to the new terraced galleries.
The seasonal all-British menus in both locations feature a range of healthy, fresh, family-friendly dishes, including sourdough pizzas, wholesome sandwiches and salads, myriad cakes, tarts and sweet treats, along with a broad list of tea, coffee and other refreshments.
Peyton Events will organise receptions, meeting and dinners throughout IWM London for groups from 10-340, with bespoke menus available. All details can be found on www.peytonandbyrne.co.uk. IWM London’s ever-changing temporary exhibitions and prestigious permanent displays can add a fascinating additional appeal to private events, especially when combined with private tours of the Galleries.
