Marston’s Brewery: One Ale Of A Job coming to Channel 5

By James Russell: Marston’s Brewery: One Ale Of A Job coming to Channel 5

August 6, 2014

Channel 5 has announced a three part series airing in September and produced by Shine TV – Marston’s Brewery: One Ale Of A Job. The series is narrated by Al Murray “The Pub Landlord” and follows the men and women of Marston’s, one of the biggest and oldest breweries in Britain, as they battle to stay ahead of the competition.

360-degree portrait of a Marston’s Brewery

For centuries we Brits have been pioneering the art of the pint, but in Britain today the brewery business is as tough as it’s ever been and competition is fierce.  While pub numbers continue to dwindle, there are now 1,113 breweries in the UK – the highest figure for 70 years.  From the hop growers to the brewers, the bottlers and the people who work in the pubs, this series will show a 360-degree portrait of a Marston’s Brewery and the people who work hard to keep Britain’s pubs pulling.

Shining a light on Marston’s and its employees

Marston’s has 14,000 staff, five breweries and 13 distribution centres across the length and breadth of Britain.  From Ringwood to Cockermouth, this three part series shines a light on the everyday heroes who are responsible for keeping Marston’s – the world’s largest brewer of cask ale – going from strength to strength.  An iconic company that dates back as far as 1834, Marston’s is a great bastion of British beer production.  Today they are running the fastest growing brewery in the UK with ties to all four corners of the country, creating distinctive regional flavours.

Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor: Entertainment, Daytime & Soaps at Channel 5 comments:

“The men and women we follow in this new series do everything they do out of passion for the perfect pint.  There’s a terrific mix of characters, stories, facts and fun and I very much hope viewers develop a taste for it.”

Lorna-Dawn Creanor, Executive Producer at Shine TV comments:

“Making beer and running a brewery is a fascinating process, add into the mix entertaining and charismatic characters and you have a recipe for must see TV.”

Marston’s Brewery: One Ale Of A Job is produced by Shine TV, part of the Shine Group.
