Based on searches made between 1 January and 15 June for travel during July and August 2014, Trivago.co.uk reports that London is unsurprisingly the most popular UK destination, followed by Edinburgh – no doubt due to the Fringe Festival in August. And Brits tend to start researching their holiday early and spend more than the global average on their hotel stay.

- Three of the top ten are beach destinations (Blackpool, Brighton and Bournemouth), suggesting some Brits are choosing to holiday at home this summer.
