Peyton and Byrne add Greenwich Bakery site

By James Russell: Peyton and Byrne add Greenwich Bakery site

July 16, 2014

Oliver Peyton and his team have opened their fourth British Bakery and Café in Greenwich. The new site is located in the vibrant centre of Greenwich, close to the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark and Old Royal Navel College.

Baking is at the heart of Peyton’s businesses with the Peyton and Byrne ethos being based around the use of all natural ingredients and focusing on seasonality. All the bakeries feature artisan soda bread, sourdough and seasonal 7-seed loaves, all freshly baked from scratch at each site. The bakeries also bake their main fresh range on site including cakes, pastries, tarts and seasonal savoury pies.

Keeping the menus seasonal and British is a main focus of Peyton and Byrne with salads and sandwiches created to suit the time of year.

The Peyton and Byrne bakeries and cafés are all-day dining venues, although they have designed a breakfast menu that can be had as a healthy start to the day or as a treat as well, suitable to eat in or have on the go. The hot-from-the‐oven range of Chelsea buns, healthy muffins and signature sausage rolls have been on the menu from the first opening of the bakeries.

Oliver and his pastry chef Glyn Gordon (previously at Orrery, L’Enclume and Roganic) undertake extensive research and development hours to create and perfect each new dish in the Peyton and Byrne repertoire. They recently launched the new Celebration and Birthday Cake range, consisting of rich and decadent flavoured cakes suitable for both adults and children.

Alongside the baked and savoury items, Peyton and Byrne also sell their own brand of preserves, jams, handmade chocolate bars, hot chocolate, and tea (sourced from Sri Lanka), as well as ground-on‐site roasted coffee from their own specialist supplier and made by a team of trained baristas. The bakeries also have a selection of gift boxes and hampers, featuring coffee, tea, chocolates and preserves.
