Sometimes descriptions can be misleading, is The Mango Lounge an excellent Indian Restaurant or a Restaurant that serves fantastic Indian Food?
This debate went on for some time over an excellent dinner in a smartly presented restaurant. The answer? I think you should decide for yourself after dining there!
For me it’s a stylish restaurant with contemporary decor and a light fresh feel situated right in the heart of Windsor.
Restaurant Manager, Arjun, gives a warm welcome on arrival and the service throughout was faultless. Chef Ashwani with Consultant Mridula Baljekar have created an imaginative and delicious menu of Indian food with influences from all of India.
A starter trio of the Chefs Signature dishes was a picture on a plate! Chilli Scallop served on spiced green pea mash, a mouth-watering combination. Batter fried Monkfish, zesty and fresh. But my favourite was the Tiger Prawn Martini, a giant prawn deep fried in rice flakes in a shot glass with a trio of chutneys and a dash of Martini, the flavours changed with each dip of the prawn. An amazing dish all complemented by a Sula Sauvignon Blanc from India.
After this starter feast the selection of main courses was a celebration of spice. Chicken Hyderbadi and Lamb Shank with masala fig sauce were my two highlights and again we stayed Indian with a Sula Shiraz.
Now often desserts can let a great meal down but not at The Mango Lounge. Again we were spoilt with a selection from Chef Ashwani. Lemon posset with hot spiced fruits, Rose Syllabub, Yoghurt and honey ice cream and a new dish from Mridula, a “crème brulee” created to be lighter and more delicate than normal
So Mango Lounge, Windsor for me is a stylish restaurant serving fabulous Indian food with a traditional friendly Indian service, I will go again!
This review is by Nick Green who manages Villeroy & Boch’s hotel and restaurant business. H&C News would like to thank Nick once again for coming with us to review The Mango Lounge.
