London’s first all day Creole bar and kitchen

By James Russell: London’s first all day Creole bar and kitchen

July 30, 2014

Bayou on Inverness Street, Camden, is an all-day Creole bar and kitchen celebrating the very best of Southern American food, drink and music culture. Opened in June,Bayou offers a unique drinking and dining experience inspired by Bayou country, closely associated with Creole culture native to the Gulf Coast.

The food at Bayou is best described as “Creole Bayou” – an exciting and exotic mix of Southern American cuisine with French, Spanish, Italian and African influences. The menu, boasting flavour packed, delicious and comforting dishes has been created to show off soul food at its best.

Think po’ boy sandwiches deep filled with hand carved roast beef and debris gravy – a perfect lunchtime treat. Or for a more substantial evening meal, opt for the main menu with starters like smoked chicken wings and Bayou beef croquettes followed by memorable mains including juicy ribs (smoked on-site), crispy buttermilk chicken and a hearty crayfish gumbo. Pudding highlights include a Creole banana pie with crunchy biscotti topping and Tennessee beignets with a zingy pineapple and mango compote.

Casual, relaxed atmosphere

Those looking for sustenance later on in the evening can enjoy a late night food menu and similarly those looking to just kick back and relax with some drinks can pull up a pew at the bar. After all Bayou is defined as a slow-moving stream or river which encapsulates the casual, relaxed atmosphere that this innovative restaurant radiates.

Cocktails are an integral part of Bayou – drop by for a refreshing bourbon creation or the must-try signature “Proud Mary” with Mezcal, tomato juice, cucumber and dill. A range of boutique American lagers will please those wanting to immerse themselves in the Southern American culture even further.

Inspired by the Bayou music scene, the restaurant will also offer entertaining evenings of live music with toe tapping jazz duos and soulful saxophonists to accompany dinner and drinks. So whether guests are looking for a brunch or lunch with friends, leisurely dinner with live music, late night bite or just a great cocktail, Bayou, keeping Creole culture and charm fully alive, has it covered.

Bayou, 20 Inverness Street, Camden, NW1 7HJ
