As a cricketer for England, and one of its most successful batsmen of all time, Kevin ‘KP’ Pietersen has inspired admiration and criticism in almost equal measure.
Now, Pietersen is to apply his talents to a new venture – opening a cocktail bar in Surbiton with brother Bryan, who runs the popular Purl bar in London’s Marylebone.
The Pietersens are set to open the new RUBI cocktail bar in Surbiton’s Maple Road on 8 July, promising a ‘speakeasy Purl lounge in the basement serving molecular cocktails, with coffee and cake on offer during the day in the ground floor cocktail bar’.
Lucy Hall, of specialist property adviser Christie + Co, negotiated the sale of the leasehold interest in the cocktail bar to Kevin and Bryan Pietersen. She says: “With his infectious, if somewhat notorious personality, and working with his experienced operator brother, we look forward to Kevin Pietersen making the cocktails at RUBI as colourful as both his career — and some of the hairstyles of his younger days!”
