Harry Ramsden’s, the iconic British brand world famous for its fish and chips, has granted the franchise for the southern half of West Sussex to locally based businessman, Ruslan Kyshtoobaev.
As part of an ambitious growth strategy overseen by Harry Ramsden’s CEO Joe Teixeira, under the terms of the franchise agreement, within the next 5 years, 10 new outlets will open across the area between Chichester and Worthing. These will include a mix of full service restaurants with takeaway facilities, as well as new ‘traditional locals’ and currently, sites across the region are being explored.
The new franchise has been awarded to Worthing based businessman, Ruslan Kyshtoobaev, an experienced restaurateur who comments, “Undoubtedly the high levels of brand recognition associated with Harry Ramsden’s, coupled with the higher quality product they offer which unlike many competitors can be traced from the sea to the plate, makes us confident of success. The details of the final mix of outlets will be dependent on the location and size of units available, however we anticipate creating in the region of 100 new jobs as a result of this agreement.”
First outlet for Worthing
It has been confirmed, however, that the first outlet will open before the end of the year on the site of the former Connaught Corner Cafe Restaurant, located on Marine Parade in Worthing. With seating for up to 80 diners, the new restaurant and its associated takeaway will offer the extensive menu now associated with Harry Ramsden’s which, as well as their world famous fish and chips, includes burgers, salads, vegetarian options and the recently introduced and hugely popular Spatchcock Grilled Chicken.
Fourth major franchise signing
The latest agreement is the brand’s fourth major franchise signing in just 9 months. In October 2013 it was announced that Harry Ramsden’s is to return to the roots of its eponymous founder, with the signing of a franchise agreement which will see 50 new outlets open in Yorkshire and create up to 500 jobs within 5 years. More recently, a franchise deal for Scotland was agreed which will see a further 50 new outlets open and a similar number of new jobs created by 2019 whilst internationally, 5 outlets are scheduled to open in Qatar as part of a franchise agreement with the Ahmed Hassan Bilal Trading and Contracting Company, a well-known Qatari business operating within the hospitality sector.
The brand has also partnered with one of the UK’s leading motorway services operators, resulting in the opening of Harry Ramsden’s outlets at Welcome Break services in Woodall, Oxford and Birchanger Green.
Joe Teixeira notes, ‘‘Over the past two years, Harry Ramsden’s has been enjoying record sales as a result the brand’s evolution, which includes a contemporary new look and a greatly enhanced menu offering, which I believe makes this the ideal time to increase our presence across the UK.’’
