Greene King, the UK’s leading pub retailer and brewer, will launch its first station pub as part of the Euston Station Balcony Development scheme. The contract, won through competitive tender, was awarded to Greene King by Network Rail Property and will run for nine years.
Investing a seven figure sum, Greene King plans to create a unique pub experience for visitors to the station. The pub, which will be known as The Duke of Grafton, named after the owner of the land that the original Euston station was built on and who have their ancestral roots in Greene King’s home county of Suffolk, will open following a major fit out. The scheme will also feature a vertical garden.
Based on Greene King’s successful Metropolitan Pub Company format, the pub will offer customers award-winning drink and high quality, home-made food. Metropolitan pubs are urban locals with independent flair and authentic charm and are renowned for their genuine hospitality and broad appeal.
Rail travel opportunity
Greene King is keen to capitalise on the opportunity from the expansion of rail travel, as Rooney Anand, Greene King’s chief executive officer, explains: “It is an exciting time to be developing a pub in a station with rail passenger numbers growing every year and investment in rail network and the major stations also increasing. Stations are a hub of activity and we want to offer rail users a place to eat, drink, meet and work in a relaxed atmosphere where they can enjoy a quality pub experience. This latest development will provide a ‘home from home’ for those living in London as well as those working or visiting the capital.”
