The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) – the leading purchasing consortium for in-house caterers operating in the further and higher education sectors – has announced it has appointed a new Chair of the National Purchasing Group for TUCO.
Clive Williams, Catering Manager at the University of Leicester takes over from incumbent Karen Knight, Commercial Business Manager at University of Nottingham, who resigned the post earlier this year on taking a new role outside of the Higher Education catering sector. Ms Knight has held the role for the past year, and has driven a number of innovative framework developments that has helped to position TUCO as a leader in its sector.
Mr Williams’ role will see him build on the strong foundations now in place and work to drive TUCO’s position in the Higher Education sector, as well as with local authorities who are utilising TUCO’s buying power, expertise and the many added value member benefits to ‘buy better’ across the public sector.
Speaking about his appointment Williams said: “Karen has done a wonderful job over the past few years, driving commercial development for the entire organisation that has benefited every member – she is certainly a tough act to follow. I hope to make an equally positive impact as TUCO continues its journey of expansion into new territory.”
Julie Barker, Chair of TUCO, added: “Karen has been absolutely pivotal in TUCO’s development of late and we wish her the very best of luck in her next steps. As she leaves her the role of Purchasing Chair in excellent shape, we are delighted to be welcoming Clive to the position.
“Clive has demonstrated a tremendous amount of vigour and forward thinking in his position at Leicester, and reflects many of the core values of TUCO. We are sure the he will continue the excellent work of the National Purchasing Group and drive further value in its operation.”
