Pizza Express is going back to its musical roots. Almost half a century since it opened its jazz club on Soho’s Dean Street, which provided a stage for rising stars including Amy Winehouse and Jamie Cullum, PizzaExpress is taking the winning formula of food and music on tour.
The Summer On! tour will see specially formed band, The Dough Ballers, perform in nine locations across the UK. The eccentric and endlessly energetic band – a quartet with a playlist of quirky covers and summer hits will play classics including their mash-up of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s ‘Summertime’ with Madonna’s ‘Holiday’.
A selection of free food and drink from PizzaExpress new range of Summer Specials will also be on offer.
Leggera Summer Salad – just 315 calories it includes succulent pieces of torn chicken, juicy strawberries, fresh blueberries, mint, and goat’s cheese on a bed of seasonal mixed leaves. It’s finished with PizzaExpress’ famous Light Dressing and basil. Pancetta can be added for £1.50, taking this super salad to a modest 383 calories.
Summer Glories – it’s not summer in Britain until you’ve enjoyed some strawberries and cream. PizzaExpress is serving vanilla and strawberry gelato with fresh cream, fresh strawberries, and mint in the form of a Strawberry & Cream Glory. For anyone looking for a bit more zing, PizzaExpress’ Lemon & Blueberry Glory includes this year’s star ingredient, lemon curd, which is folded into the lemon sorbet that forms the base of the new Lemon & Blueberry Glory. Finished with juicy blueberries, sweet fruit coulis, a chocolate straw, mint and fresh lemon, this is a deliciously fresh and light dessert.
The Hugo – a refreshing and summery cocktail made with Prosecco, mint leaves, elderflower and a slice of lemon over ice. Summer in a glass!
Rebecca Farrer, Brand Director at PizzaExpress said, “We’ve been connected with music ever since our jazz club opened in 1967. We want to take the essence of our jazz club on tour. And to make it even more of an event, we’ll be giving out delicious treats.”
