Imbibe Live launches UK film premiere of Somm and Imbibe’s £5,000 Sommelier Challenge to complete its unrivalled 2014 wine programme
On Tuesday 1st July, leading on-trade drinks exhibition Imbibe Live will host the UK premiere of Jason Wiseman’s film Somm in association with Wines from Rioja. Joined by the director himself, 75 of the UK’s top sommeliers and Master Sommeliers will be invited to the exclusive screening, transported directly from Imbibe Live located at Olympia, London.
Wiseman’s thought-provoking documentary follows the journey of four sommeliers in the run up to the prestigious Master Sommelier exam, a test renowned for one of the lowest pass rates in the world. With the title of Master Sommelier achieved by just 200 people, the film depicts the sommeliers’ trials and tribulations, with a dramatic turn of events that encounter. Met with critical acclaim, The Huffington Post stated: “Somm is funny, sad, and inspirational … this movie is a must see”.
The UK launch of Wiseman’s acclaimed film is the latest addition to Imbibe Live’s unrivalled wine programme including Imbibe’s £5,000 Sommelier Challenge. Hosted on Imbibe Live’s Centre Stage, the competition sees 18 sommeliers with the keenest nose, the sharpest palate and the deepest wine knowledge battle it out in a three-round contest to be crowned winner and take home £5,000 cash prize.
This year the Imbibe team have worked closely with the show’s wine ambassador Ronan Sayburn MS to create a must-attend event for wine buyers, sommeliers, restaurant managers, owners and those in the industry looking to create an outstanding drinks list. The world-class programme of wine content consists of unmissable wine masterclasses, expert-led tastings and workshops. Notable industry speakers include the likes of Gearoid Devaney MS, Charles Thuiller, Nigel Greening, Doug Wregg, Stéphane Derenoncourt, Michael Sager, Ferran Centelles and Ruth Spivey.
