Galvin’s Chance Mayfair Power Tower Race 2014

By James Russell: Galvin’s Chance Mayfair Power Tower Race 2014

June 9, 2014

Galvin’s Chance Mayfair Power Tower Race took place on 6 June: a different kind of challenge where individual runners completed a 4.5 km circuit around Hyde Park before mounting the 28 floors of the Hilton Park Lane. Runners included Chris Galvin, Fred Siriex and Head Chef Joo Won.

Not unreasonably, runners were rewarded after the race with a VIP reception and Champagne breakfast at Galvin at Windows! Pictured above are Chris Galvin and Fred Siriex at the finish line, Galvin At Windows bar.

Previous runners have included Michel Roux Jr, Monica Galetti, Iwan Thomas and Alan Murchison.

This year’s winner was Matthew Shaw (time: 19.17).

Team Challenge

New this year was the ‘Team Challenge’. Teams took part in the race whilst completing challenges set out by the British Military Fitness (BMF) team. BMF have military background and have set up a fitness program – this year they included some of their challenges as part of the race!

Their challenge was to raise £25,000 to fund Galvin’s Chance, an inspirational ‘into work programme’ leading to apprenticeships, college programmes or sustainable employment for disadvantaged young people aged 18-24.
