Online food ordering site hungryhouse was a winner last Saturday as football fans gorged themselves on takeaways and ordered alcohol deliveries ahead of the England match.
The platform saw its orders increase 84% compared to an average Saturday in June. Orders peaked at 9:17pm – plenty of time for the food to arrive ahead of kick off – with hungryhouse restaurant partners receiving three orders every second.
The nation got behind the England team with their bellies full of typical takeaway favourites. The most popular dishes ordered were pepperoni pizza, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and chicken wings.
Sheffield, Nottingham and South West London housed the hungriest fans, with the areas seeing orders increase to more than three times their usual rate. The most expensive order also came from South West London, with a whopping £577.26 spent on one Indian takeaway order
Perfect game timings – for a takeaway!
Scott Fletcher, Managing Director, hungryhouse comments: “The huge spike in orders we saw last night suggests that the majority of fans watched the match at home with friends and family. We are likely to benefit throughout the tournament as many games are scheduled during the evening, the perfect time for a takeaway!”
Multiple hungryhouse partner restaurants have participated in a ‘Pizza Cup’ tournament, creating football themed pizzas available for the duration of the tournament.
