Ca’puccino’s ultimate Italian Coffee House in T2, Heathrow

By James Russell: Ca’puccino’s ultimate Italian Coffee House in T2, Heathrow

June 23, 2014

Premium Italian coffee house and kitchen Ca’puccino this week unveiled a unique new concept in The Queen’s Terminal, Heathrow across a 140 seat prestige location, combining a state of the art speciality coffee and take away area, a signature restaurant and a fresh ice cream and chocolate bar including a children’s area for families.

Unique ‘hybridisation’ concept

Currently with 11 sites in Italy including Rome, Milan and Bologna along with four other premium locations in the UK in Harrods, Westfield White City, 138a Kings Road and 25 Basil Street, the new Terminal 2 location features interiors from renowned Italian furniture designer Monica Lupi and Italy’s Costa Group, and a unique “hybridisation concept” in the take away area with its neighbour WH Smith, meaning best-selling books, newspapers and magazines are all available for purchase within the 3,700 square foot layout.

Open from 5am to 11pm daily, Ca’puccino will provide breakfasts, a range of authentic Italian sandwiches based on traditional family recipes, such as Napoli consisting of buffalo mozzarella, vine ripened tomatoes and fresh basil on lightly toasted basil ciabatta, typical from the Campania Region, regional pasta dishes and salads, in addition to its Italian speciality coffees.

Speciality House Coffees

Ca’puccino’s famed coffees include regional specialities much loved by generations of Italians, from Caffé Bicerin which originates from Turin in the Piedmont region, and is made with espresso, dark hot chocolate and steamed milk, to Caffè del Professore from Naples in the Campania region, made with espresso and hazelnut cream with a whipped cream top.

Fresh juices squeezed to order, handpicked Italian loose leaf teas, hot brewed coffees and milkshakes are available throughout the day, and for those looking for authentic aperitivo, there is a selection of traditional Italian cocktails as well as wines and Prosecco. There is also a special children’s menu for “piccoli” guests.

Pasticceria

A major feature in any Ca’puccino is its pasticceria, and in this new airport location there will be a mouth-watering selection of handmade pastries and desserts from hand filled cornetti to mousse torta, again with provenance high on the ingredients menu with hazelnuts for example from Alba in the Piedmont region, and lemons from Amalfi in the Campania region.

Gelato

The ice cream and chocolate bar offers a mouth-watering range of freshly made gelato, soft scoop ice cream, milk and fresh fruit 100% natural ice lollies as well as fresh fruit sorbets, that are all available for eat in or take away.

For those on the go, there is also the take away area, Ca’puccino Espresso.

Space and elegance

The overall design creates a sense of space and elegance, features a number of the company’s signature Italian book displays, and replicates the tones and colour ways of a classic cappuccino.

New features include a specially created four-seater high table with mounted iPads and an adaptable event space, where food demonstrations, chocolate masterclasses and book signings are planned.  The latest venue has introduced six cold brewing towers where Ca’puccino’s exclusive single origin coffee is filter brewed with iced mineral water over an eight hour process to create a range of smooth flavoured iced coffees. A first to the airport!

Ca’puccino founders and major shareholders Giacomo Moncalvo and Maurizio Raviolo wanted to create a homely, stylish and premium environment reflecting classic Italian traditions, but with a strong, design-led contemporary feel.

Chief Operating Officer, Sofia Dimen said: “In line with our heritage we have sourced the best of everything from Italy in our fixtures, fittings and interiors. We live and breathe ‘made in Italy’ from our handmade wood, glass and stainless steel counters to our luxurious leather armchairs and unique fibreglass statement lampshades. We have worked extremely hard making all our key operations and assets as sustainable as possible. Being able to create one space with many moods in such a large and prominent location has been very exciting for us, and we have worked hard to ensure that the passenger journey is as convenient and as relaxing as possible.”
