This week will see Welcome Break, the leading motorway service operator, celebrate its first ever National Truckers Appreciation Week, in association with Sally Traffic from BBC Radio 2. The appreciation week has been launched to recognise the UK’s estimated 300,000 lorry drivers and the huge contribution these unsung heroes make to the country and to emphasise how safety continues to be their number one priority.
National Truckers Appreciation Week will run throughout this week and the highlight will be a special day of activities especially for truckers at the Welcome Break South Mimms service station, off junction 23 of the M25 in Hertfordshire.
Free bacon sandwich!
On Wednesday 14 May, lorry drivers who stop off at any Welcome Break service station nationwide between 6am and 10am can enjoy a free bacon sandwich courtesy of Welcome Break*.
Furthermore, lorry drivers visiting the Truck Stop at Welcome Break South Mimms will also be served a free piping hot cup of tea or coffee by Sally Traffic, to enjoy with their bacon sandwich.
Sally Traffic at South Mimms
Sally Traffic will be at South Mimms all morning, inviting truckers to pose for a #SallySelfie to be in with the chance of winning a T-shirt with their photo on, while also finding out about their tales of the road and favourite songs to drive to. The first 50 lorry drivers to meet Sally at South Mimms will also receive a special #TruckerLove mug.
Rod McKie, CEO of Welcome Break, says: “Without a doubt, truckers are the unsung heroes of our roads, so we felt they deserved to be celebrated. After receiving so much feedback from those who use our sites, we decided it was time to treat the lorry drivers of the UK and start engaging with them in order to improve their visits to us.”
* To redeem their free bacon sandwich, lorry drivers need to download the voucher from www.welcomebreak.co.uk/truckers
