Spirit Pub Company changes management structure

By James Russell: Spirit Pub Company changes management structure

May 21, 2014

Spirit has announced that the managed operations and commercial functions, previously headed by Alan Morgan (Chief Operating Officer) and Clive Briscoe (Commercial Director) respectively, will now be combined to ensure Spirit has the optimum structure in place to build on current success.

Alan Morgan will now take responsibility for the new combined functions and drive the business to fulfil its ambition to become the UK’s number one hospitality company. This results in the role of Commercial Director being made redundant and therefore Clive Briscoe leaving the business at the end of May.

Mike Tye, CEO, said: “Over the last few years, the transformation of the Managed Business has been focussed heavily on both the creation and development of our successful brand portfolio and much improved operational excellence.

“We now see considerable upside in combining managed operations and the commercial function under one leader. This change gives clear and sole accountability for sales, volume and margin and means we have the insights from, and the interests of, our guests and our teams in one place.

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Clive for his significant contribution during his four years with the business and wish him every success in his future career.”

Operations

In order to support this change, Nick Young is appointed as Operations Director for the Managed Division and will continue to report directly to Alan.  Nick’s role will provide additional focus on delivery of the Operations Strategy, with accountability for driving Operational Excellence and a Great Guest Experience as well as growing profit. Spirit will be reviewing the market and considering options to replace Nick’s previous role.

Property

One of Spirit’s core strategies is to grow the estate through acquisition.  To strengthen this Chris Welham will become accountable for all aspects of property, which will facilitate this strategy and ensure the best use of assets.
