Soho House and Stanhope move forward with Television Centre

By James Russell: Soho House and Stanhope move forward with Television Centre

May 1, 2014

Stanhope has launched the detailed designs for Television Centre, which will now include a Soho House for West London.  Soho House will design and operate the club together with 47 bedrooms, a roof terrace and swimming pool and associated restaurants.

The development will pay homage to the original use of the building and keep many of the original features of the much loved listed buildings including the famous ‘doughnut’, atomic dot wall and Helios statue.

The announcement of Stanhope’s partnership with Soho House is at the heart of Stanhope’s vision for Television Centre as a key destination in West London with active public spaces and uses, plus an emphasis on a relaxed home from home environment and personalised service for the local community.

A revised planning application will be submitted at the end of May, with revisions illustrating in greater detail how Stanhope and the partnership with Soho House will deliver the vision and enable the start of construction from April 2015 when the BBC vacate the majority of the site.

Television Centre becoming a great place to live, work and visit

Nick Jones, CEO of Soho House, said: “West London has always been a spiritual home for Soho House, with Electric House, Notting Hill opening in 2002 and High Road House, Chiswick in 2005.  The area has a rich and varied tradition of creative talent and the development of Television Centre will provide a worthy addition to the area and a new home from home for members to work and relax in.”

David Camp, CEO of Stanhope Plc, said:  “Since we received planning permission at the end of last year we have been looking in more detail at how we can realise our vision for Television Centre as a vibrant heart to the wider White City district of London. The partnership with Soho House is key to our promise that Television Centre will be the best serviced new community in London. We will also be working with Nick Jones and his team to ensure that we deliver the optimum mix of uses and services for occupiers, residents and visitors.

“For the first time in 50 years, the site will be opened up creating access through the site essential in enabling Television Centre to become the hub to the evolving district.  Together with the BBC’s continuing presence on the site and the addition of Soho House, we believe that Television Centre will be a great place to live, work and visit.”
