Shoreditch Grind, the Espresso and Cocktail Bar that has not- so-quietly simmered in Old Street for almost three years now is opening a sister-site, Soho Grind, on Beak Street in early May, just off iconic Carnaby Street.
Shoreditch Grind
Was launched in 2011 by DJ and musician Kaz James and entrepreneur David Abrahamovitch, and has become a Shoreditch Landmark.
The pair had entertained the idea of one day opening a coffee shop after meeting over ten years ago, and saw opportunity in ‘the Roundhouse’, a two-storey perfectly circular stand-alone building on the edge of Old Street Roundabout, previously a mobile phone shop opened by David’s father in the 90s.
Not convinced with anything offered by the big name roasters, they scoured the country in search of a punchy but smooth Espresso blend, the kind Kaz had grown up drinking in his native Melbourne and had longed for since relocating to London. Finding it difficult to re-create that taste, they instead started working with a small boutique roaster to create an exclusive custom blend, and the Shoreditch Grind House Espresso Blend was born.
A reflection of Kaz’s musical background, they also added a Recording Studio upstairs, which has been a home from home for a wide ranging group of DJs and recording artists including Chromeo, Sam Smith, Pixie Lott, Jungle and Tinie Tempah.
Soho Grind
Like Shoreditch, Soho Grind will be an all day and late night Espresso Bar, serving a new custom blend, developed especially for Soho.
In addition, and subject to licensing, as the evening arrives, a section of wall in the basement will slide back to reveal a hidden speak-easy serving a cocktail list that will include the now-famous Grind Espresso Martini as well as some new cocktails also designed especially for Soho.
In addition to serving the best coffee in the postcode, Soho Grind will have an all-day food offering, serving a selection of pastries, muesli and fruit in the mornings, a seasonal and fresh range of Italian inspired food at lunch, and an evening menu of aperitivo and small sharing plates
In keeping with the Shoreditch recording studio, we’ll be releasing a series of exclusive playlists via our website curated by friends of the Grind and other special guests.
