Two chefs from The London Clinic have taken Silver Best in Class, the top Award in the Hospital Chefs Team Class of the 2014 Le Salon Culinaire International de Londres. This is a showcase for the best chefs in the catering business and takes place as part of Hotelympia, the UK’s largest food service and hospitality show at ExCel in London.
The Hospital Chefs Team Class in Salon Culinaire is organised by the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) and sponsored by Hobart Cooking Solutions and the Worshipful Company of Cooks. These Awards allow hospital chefs to have the opportunity of demonstrating their craft skills, unrestricted by the boundaries of set recipes and menus.
All seven of the hospital chef teams won awards or certificates from the judges – one Silver, three Bronzes, two Certificates of Merit and one Hygiene Award Certificate.
HCA’s Hospital Chefs of the Year
The top award winners in the Salon Culinaire Hospital Chefs Team Class automatically become the HCA’s Hospital Chefs of the Year. This year’s title, therefore, has gone to the winning duo of Bela Szekeres and Gabor Rajhona from The London Clinic who achieved a Silver Medal, Best in Class.
The new HCA Hospital Chefs of the Year 2014 were awarded with the coveted HCA Salon Culinaire Silver Rose Bowl as the as well as Salon Culinaire Silver Medals, Commemorative Plates and Certificates. Presenting the prizes were Salon Culinaire 2014 Chairman of Judges, John Retallick; HCA Chair, Andy Jones; HCA Guest & Head Chef, The Wolseley Restaurant, London, Lawrence Keogh; Chef Director, Salon Culinaire, James Tanner and representatives from the Hospital Chef Team Class co-sponsors, Hobart Cooking Solutions and Worshipful Company of Cooks.
Bronze Awards + Certificates
The three Bronze award winners were Leejo George and Jimmichen George, Salisbury District Hospital, Alex Lacey-Moody and Daniel Hampton, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester and Christian Bull and Janet Milovanic, Royal Oldham Hospital (Pennine Acute Trust).
Certificates of Merit went to Sendil S. Keralasubramanian and Chris Chidarikire, Salisbury District Hospital and David Smith and James Bayliss, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
A Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Hygiene Award Certificate was presented to Hollie Atkinson and Helen Ball, Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
