When asked for his ‘food heaven’ on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen recently Alistair McGowan cited the Lemon Meringue Pie he was served by the Amadeus catering team at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham and described it as “absolutely exquisite”.
Alistair was at the ICC hosting the National Entrepreneur Awards and was served the delicious dessert as part of an awards dinner for 1000 delegates – Alistair himself commented that it is a huge achievement to serve such high quality food in these quantities, something the Amadeus catering team at the ICC pride themselves on delivering for every event.
Amadeus Pastry Chef Clayton hand delivered a bespoke Lemon Meringue Pie to Alistair, who is currently touring with the play Pygmalion at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, so he could relive his ‘food heaven’. Clayton, who made the dessert, also gave Alistair the recipe and an apron so he can attempt to recreate the sweet treat himself.
The ICC has long been recognised as an industry leader in event catering, with Executive Head Chef Simon Hellier’s determinrd to push boundaries and pioneer restaurant quality food in a large scale conference and banqueting environment. Simon introduced “The Definitive collection” – the country’s first on the spot choice banqueting menu for up to 1800 people, and is always looking for new ways to surprise and delight clients and delegates.
