The US Government apparently took the makers of Palcohol – a powder version of vodka, rum and four cocktails – by susprise when it announced that it had approved the products for sale. By this autumn, therefore, it will be legal to sell seven flavours of Palcohol in the USA.
It’s not yet known when or if Palcohol will be available in the UK or Europe, though it’s a fair bet that enquiries are being made already – and that health and other organisations are considering the implications.
Palcohol is owned by a privately held company called Lipsmark, and its website stresses the need to use it responsibly: they’ve already added volume to the powder to prevent ‘goofballs’ from snorting it!
What is Palcohol?
Palcohol is described on its website as ‘just a powder version of vodka, rum and four cocktails….with the same alcoholic content’.
It’s alcohol in powder form so all that has to be added is water. Powder is, of course, light and compact, a great convenience for the person on the go. One package weighs about an ounce and is small enough to fit into any pocket.
Alcoholic content: Palcohol, when used as directed by adding five ounces of liquid to it, is equal to a standard mixed drink.
What’s in it?
It varies per version but, basically, alcohol, natural flavorings and Sucralose as a sweetener. The ingredients of each version are listed on the front of the package. Palcohol is gluten free.
Where will it be sold?
Think of Palcohol as liquor in powder form. It will be sold anywhere where liquor can be sold and a buyer must be of legal drinking age to buy it. It will be available both in the United States and abroad and it can also be bought online.
