Oddfellows, Chester is the first hotel in the city to launch the increasingly popular serviced apartments. In true Oddfellows style, the apartments are not the typical charmless pine-clad bachelor pads but instead possess the same inimitable style and humour featured at the design-led award winning boutique hotel.
The concept of apartments attached to a hotel originated in the United States and has increased in popularity globally due to the benefits it can offer travellers. Sarah Dougherty, manager of Oddfellows said: “We have always thought Oddfellows would work well with apartments. They offer concrete benefits to those looking for a longer stay and a little bit more room, with all the convenience of being attached to a hotel with a restaurant and bar.”
She added:” We have lots of business travellers who stay with us for four or five nights at a time and families visiting the city at the weekend – the apartments will be absolutely ideal for them. They will have all the homely touches you need for a longer stay, generous wardrobes, comfy sofas, lamps, a fully fitted out kitchen all combined with our idiosyncratic fun interior design.”
There are set to be five Apartments by Oddfellows all situated around a stunning courtyard, just moments away from the Dee and a short walk to all the dining and drinking amenities at the hotel. The first apartment will launch later this month with the others following as quickly as interior designer Louise James can design them.
Design approach
Louise has recently designed the newly refurbished ‘Grown Up Bar by Taittinger’ at the Lower Bridge Street hotel. She describes her inspiration with the apartments: “The design approach was inspired by the building itself. The large vehicle entrance to the internal courtyard suggests that it was originally built to allow carriages to pass through; this led to thinking about the excitement of historical travelling adventures.”
“The central theme of ‘whimsical travel’ has been given the Oddfellows signature quirky spin and inspired the choice of the artwork and finishes: Feature wallpaper depicting stacks of old leather suitcases and fantastical hot air balloon flights; Vivienne Westwood tartan which resembles the old suitcase linings; retro waiting room signs and quirky flying contraptions along with a large practical OS map so that guests can explore the local area.”
