Davis Coffer Lyons – the leisure specialists – has been appointed by up-and-coming microbrewery A2 Brew (Tay) Ltd as it looks to expand into its first permanent premises. The company – headed up by Jules Cezarr and his brothers, Mark and Tony – is looking to secure up to three free house pub venues in emerging areas of London by the end of the year.
The brewery – which pipes its water directly from a Roman Well on Gresham Street in the City – is now in its third year of operation and produces over 20,000 amphoras a year. The names of its ales and porters are inspired by the ‘Roman’ water source including Londinium Pride, Stab in the Back and Nice Asp.
To conquer the Capital
Adrian Wall, Head Brewer, said: “After going down a long (straight) road we reached a crossroads of sorts. We’re getting the maximus out of the brewery, next step is conquer the Capital. Our water source has been adjudicated by Buildings, Utilities and London Landmarks (BULL) and the Society of Historical Infrastructure and Transportation to be over 2,000 years old which means it predates current legislation and is therefore exempt from the beer duty escalator. As well as a traditional pub offer there will also be a Julian calendar of extreme sporting event nights for the more adventurous punters – we hope our guests give us the thumbs up.”
Sizable war chest
Chris Bickle, Associate Director at DCL: “A2 Brew (Tay) has access to a sizable war chest, which means when their plans to dominate London succeed they will likely expand into further corners of the leisure world. They are rumoured be considering opening boutique spas in regional cities – such as Bath – with the UK’s only ale based treatments capitalising on the drink’s unique therapeutic qualities. I wish them luck with their plans and – given the Soothsayer’s predictions – think we will be seeing a lot more of them in the future.”
