HCA 2014 Conference calls for innovative leadership and new NHS culture

By James Russell: HCA 2014 Conference calls for innovative leadership and new NHS culture

April 4, 2014

The 2014 Annual National Conference and Exhibition of the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) takes place from Thursday 10 – Friday 11 April at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, NEC, Birmingham. The HCA Annual National Conference and Exhibition is the premier annual event for healthcare catering managers, hotel services and facilities professionals and industry suppliers. The 2014 Conference theme is “Engineering the Future”.

Overcoming the obstacles of financial pressures, customer demands and expectations calls for innovative leadership.  With the adoption of Protected Mealtimes together with sustainable and nutritionally planned menus being current focuses, speakers at Conference will share their vision for an NHS that needs to think, plan and act differently in order to address the balance of feeding patients in a suitable environment whilst offering a choice and quality that meets their individual needs.

Breaking the mould of the NHS culture and empowering the caterer will make a difference during a patient’s stay.  The HCA has already contributed to food being more widely recognized as being as important as medicine and the Conference aims to increase the focus on hospital caterers setting the standards, rather than having them imposed upon them.

Andy Jones, National Chairman, Hospital Caterers Association comments:

“As many who know me are already aware, my motto is “nothing is impossible” so our Conference 2014 message of “anything is possible” is more than fitting.  Engineering our healthcare services for the future is going to be the key challenge for us all and the Association is one hundred per cent focused on ensuring we are not only part of the drive to create a resilient structure but are leading on the major aspects which will support our ability as caterers to provide high standards of food service in the long term.

“Ensuring that good nutritional care remains central to every single patient’s recovery plan is fundamental to the HCA’s mission within partnerships and all stakeholder relationships.  To achieve optimum nutritional care for every single patient in our care, we must strive to build catering operations across Trusts that are properly equipped and financed to meet the challenges that not only lie ahead in all areas of the NHS but also those that are destined to impact on humanity as a whole.”
