One of the Scottish Borders’s most renowned hotels, Ednam House in Kelso has been purchased by Guyzance Hall Ltd, for an undisclosed sum.
The former 18th Century Mansion, located on the banks of the River Tweed in the centre of Kelso, has been purchased from the Brooks family who have owned and operated the hotel since 1928.
This new acquisition adds to the Guyzance Hall Ltd’s existing portfolio of properties which includes Doxford Hall Hotel, Eshott Hall and Guyzance Hall in Northumberland, as well as Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh, and the Tedsmore Estate in Shropshire.
Ednam House was built as a mansion by James Dickson, a Kelso lad who had returned to his home town after making his fortune in London in the spice trade. After his death it had various owners it until it was bought by Ralph Brooks, a local baker, in 1928. The Brooks family have operated the hotel for the last 85 years.
With 32 guest bedrooms, Ednam House is a renowned Scottish Borders hotel welcoming many fishing parties and guests throughout the season, and locals for wedding parties and events. Its riverside location provides the most magnificent backdrop for those dining in the bars and restaurant.

Our policy is to invest in the local economy, through buying locally, and providing opportunity and employment.”
In investing in their properties, and their staff, the Company is committed to sustainability – in upholding and extending the role their properties have always played in the local economy. All are bespoke wedding and conference venues, and lead the way in providing a perfect venue for the occasion. Each Hall offers a different experience for those attending. These range from the baronial Scottish character of Dalhousie, the rural grandeur of Doxford and Guyzance, to the intimate comfort of Eshott.
During its many decades as one of the foremost hotels in this area of Scotland, Ednam House, has offered the highest levels of hospitality to fishermen, brides and grooms, and countless other distinguished visitors.
