Last month, The Ape & Bird Public House, the 5000 square feet, three-storey pub, restaurant and bar on Cambridge Circus, announced its new Head Chef Alex Windebank.
Windebank, previously of The Sportsman near Whitstable and most recently head chef at The Plough Inn, Stalisfield Green, Kent joined as head chef of the 120-cover pub and restaurant in March. Since then, he has taken charge of the menu, bringing a stronger emphasis on British comfort classics, strong, simple flavours and great value.

Now, to celebrate his arrival, to encourage feasting and just for the hell of it, Alex wants as many people as possible to try his cooking. For a week and a day, from 14 April to 21 April inclusive, everything on the menu at The Ape & Bird Public House is Buy One Get One Free. All starters, main courses, side dishes and desserts are included in the offer, drinks are not.
“It gives me great pleasure to be finally cooking great British pub classics in the centre of London, the most exciting city on the planet. As publicans, we try to encourage people to drink responsibly, but with the buy-one-get-one-free menu offer, I want Londoners to enjoy the discount and eat slightly irresponsibly,” says Windebank, 29.
The offer runs through the week leading up to, and including, Easter Monday. Bookings are taken for brunch and lunch. Reservations are not required for dinner.
