Costa Express revolutionises self-serve coffee with launch of Marlow

By James Russell: Costa Express revolutionises self-serve coffee with launch of Marlow

April 9, 2014

Costa Express has launched Marlow, a groundbreaking innovation which it states is set to transform the vending industry and the way in which customers consume their favourite Costa coffee.

Marlow is the first of its kind and will revolutionise the self-serve experience, combining the ultimate in convenience with quality coffee and all the quintessential elements that characterise the Costa coffee shop experience.

It not only offers freshly ground Costa Mocha Italia beans and fresh milk in every single cup, but also provides a comprehensive range of over 250 drink selections, so that customers can have all their favourites in one place and recreate the same, delicious Costa quality coffee shop taste, every time.

Captivates all five senses

What’s more, Marlow’s advanced multi-sensory coffee shop experience has the ability to captivate all five senses. Consumers will be able to hear, see, touch, smell and taste all the different elements that make Costa coffee shops so warm and welcoming.

Costa Express Managing Director Scott Martin commented, “Marlow aims to completely transform consumers’ perceptions of ‘self-serve coffee’. As Costa’s quality taste has been the Nation’s Favourite for four years running, we’re delighted to be able to offer the quintessential Costa coffee shop experience to customers everywhere, even from the comfort of their office.

“As the world leader in self-serve coffee bars, we have a responsibility to innovate. We’ve partnered with some cutting-edge companies to create Marlow, an industry-leading innovation, and we’re very proud to launch this truly unique offer to the market.”

Design – Pininfarina

Working with some of the world’s leading experts in design, scent, technology, taste and sound to create Marlow, Costa harnessed expertise from legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, to create its stylish and distinctive look.

Sound – eMixpro

To imitate the sounds of a bustling Costa coffee shop, Costa worked with the experts in online mixing and mastering, eMixpro, whose usual work involves chart-topping artists like U2, Rolling Stones and Coldplay.

Aroma – Scentys

Scentys, the fragrance diffusion experts, used a combination of cutting-edge technology and fine fragrance to create the coffee shop aroma including Costa Mocha Italia blend coffee, freshly baked goods and hot chocolate

Flavour – Givaudan

And renowned flavour experts Givaudan created the unique low sugar syrups to offer eight different flavours from a rich velvety caramel to a warming gingerbread.

Interactivity – Atomhawk

A team of interactive specialists including gaming experts Atomhawk – who worked on Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings – used their expertise to mirror the coffee shop ordering process and create something truly engaging on a 27 inch HD touch screen.

Coffee – Costa Roastery + Thermoplan

And of course, no self-serve coffee bar would be complete without the coffee.  Combining its coffee expertise and heritage from its Roastery in Lambeth with Swiss coffee technology experts Thermoplan, Costa has optimized the coffee and milk delivery system, to ensure it consistently delivers a great tasting experience every time.

Premium coffee for the workplace

With the branded coffee shop market worth £2.6 billion with annual sales growth of 9.3%, Marlow can provide an additional revenue source for businesses. Marlow can also increase employee engagement by bringing a premium coffee moment to the workplace.
