Bermondsey Square Hotel celebrates 5th birthday

By James Russell: Bermondsey Square Hotel celebrates 5th birthday

April 10, 2014

The Bermondsey Square Hotel celebrates its 5th birthday this April and continues to stand as a monument to 1960s British style amidst the ever-thriving streets of Bermondsey, just minutes from the skyscraping elegance of London Bridge.

First opening its doors in the testing economic times of April 2009, the hotel has proved more than merely recession-proof. Starting life amidst much fanfare, stemming largely from the unique room service menu which included pillow fights on demand and doggy grooming breaks among its offerings, it has thrived as the focal point of Bermondsey’s ongoing renewal. Over the past five years, it has hosted everyone from globetrotting musicians to Olympic athletes, as well as starring in its very own Channel Four primetime TV series, the star-studded Hotel GB, in October, 2012.

With its 75 boutique bedrooms still as sleek as they ever were, alongside a view offered by the dazzling collection of 4 top floor suites that has grown even more spectacular with the recent completion of the nearby Shard, the hotel has gone from strength to strength, boasting consistently high occupancy rates and quickly building a loyal following amongst visitors to the city of London.

Uniquely stylish

Providing a uniquely stylish experience to those staying in the capital, The Bermondsey Square Hotel has proven equally popular with corporate and leisure clients, not to mention those who seek something altogether more intimate in the form of the hotel’s rooftop hot tub, which has obtained near-iconic status within the community thanks to its ability to provide views of The London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral, along with the rest of London’s world famous skyline.

“Opened in the eye of the recession, just in time for Easter 2009, The Bermondsey Square Hotel has had to grow up fast”, said Robin Sheppard, Chairman of The Bespoke Hotel Group. “Fortunately, it has consistently traded its little socks off and quickly established itself as the place to stay south of the river.”
