Quality purchases: Jamaica Inn and Sway Manor

By James Russell: Quality purchases: Jamaica Inn and Sway Manor

March 3, 2014

One of Cornwall’s most famous landmarks has been acquired: Jamaica Inn (above left) on Bodmin Moor has been purchased by Surrey businessman Allen Jackson for over £2 million. He commented:

“I saw it as a great opportunity to acquire Cornwall’s most icfonic, historic and famous inn.”

Of course, the fact that the BBC’s adaptation of du Maurier’s novel is scheduled to air this Easter can’t do any harm!

Sway Manor

Meanwhile, Colliers International has sold Sway Manor (above right) in the New Forest to hospitality veteran Tim Burton-Holloway off an asking price of £1.25 million. Tim said:

“The New Forest is a well known tourist and touring hub with a host of great attractions within comfortable driving distance but I think there is massive potential here for further growth.

“We will be launching a major upgrade of our facilities in order to improve the offering to our local customers as well as visitors.”

The handsome 16 bedroom hotel is surrounded by five acres of grounds and includes a stylish bar/lounge alongside a conservatory dining room for 60 and for functions of up to 120.
