New Master Innholders

By James Russell: New Master Innholders

March 25, 2014

The Master Innholders have announced that the following hoteliers have been selected to be awarded the title of Master Innholder:

Mark Chambers – Managing Director, Eden Hotel Collection (above left)

Nicholas Dickinson – Managing Director, Congham Hall (above right)

Colm Kelly – General Manager, K+K Hotel George, London (below left)

Claire Randall – Managing Director, Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa (below right)

Their selection follows a rigorous application process which includes the submission of a1500-word paper, appearance before an interview panel, and demonstration of their current contribution and support to the wider industry.

Promoting the highest professional standards in hotel management

Commenting on the selection, the Chairman of the Master Innholders, Andrew Stembridge FIH MI (Managing Director of Chewton Glen and Cliveden House) said, “I am very proud to be able to welcome these new Master Innholders who join an association which has the sole objective of promoting the highest professional standards in hotel management.

“We were particularly pleased with the high quality of submissions received this year, as well as the breadth of the industry which they represented. This bodes well for the future success and influence of the Master Innholders.”

About the Master Innholders

The formation of the Master Innholders in 1978 was the first step taken by the Worshipful Company of Innholders towards renewing its traditional links with innkeeping. In common with many other City of London Livery Companies, however, it had retained few connections with the modern day industry of hotel-keeping. The award of membership is open to practising hoteliers by application each year. With the full support of the Worshipful Company of Innholders (which this year celebrates 500 years since the granting of its first Royal charter in 1514) and the Institute of Hospitality, the Master Innholders have slowly grown in number and have increased their influence and charitable activities within the hotel industry.

The Master Innholders organise the popular annual General Managers’ Conference in London, the proceeds of which help support professional management development through the highly-acclaimed Master Innholder Scholarships. These valuable awards are delivered with the generous collaboration of the Savoy Educational Trust, the Worshipful Company of Innholders and the Lord Forte Foundaton.

There are about 100 Master Innholders, all of whom are, or have been, prominent hoteliers, dedicated and committed to promoting best practice in the industry. Peter Lederer CBE, Harry Murray MBE, Stuart Bowery, Jonathan Raggett, David Morgan-Hewitt, Stephen Carter OBE and Jonathan Slater are just a few well-known Master Innholders.
