intu submits plans for leisure and dining development at intu Bromley

By James Russell: intu submits plans for leisure and dining development at intu Bromley

March 20, 2014

intu has submitted a planning application to create an exciting leisure development to provide more choice and variety in Bromley.

The plans include internal remodelling to provide a casual dining cluster of restaurants around the Elmfield Road entrance to the centre. This layout will ensure that the leisure and catering offer is integrated with all floors of the centre and at ground level with the entrance to Elmfield Road.

The plans also include a new cinema to be located on the roof of the centre. The cinema will be designed to be a high quality boutique concept with luxurious seating, and a more enhanced food and waiter service than you may find in more traditional cinemas. It will have five screens and only 220 seats which will provide an exclusive feel for film goers.

Julian Wilkinson, asset management director for intu said: “Bromley, as a ‘Metropolitan Centre’, is currently under-supplied for leisure and catering so we see a big opportunity to meet this demand and drive more footfall from further and increase dwell time from this highly affluent catchment.”

New restaurant terrace

intu will also be starting work on a new exciting restaurant terrace alongside Queen’s Garden, creating an al fresco dining offer. This is expected to be completed during 2015 This will lengthen the trading day for parts of the lower mall and will create a critical mass of casual, family friendly dining which will be linked to the centre. All five units are under offer and intu expects to make further announcements over the coming weeks.

In order to attract the right tenants to Bromley, intu is also refreshing the malls and adding a fresh colour palette. In conjunction with its retailers, intu has designed the refresh to add personality to the four piazza areas and create an improved retail environment for its customers and retailers. The works include new cladding to escalators and lifts and upper areas will be redecorated. The refreshment is due to be complete by autumn 2014.

Construction of the leisure development is anticipated to start during 2015
