Hospitality companies prominent in Sunday Times Best Companies 2014

By James Russell: Hospitality companies prominent in Sunday Times Best Companies 2014

March 3, 2014

Hospitality companies feature prominently in this year’s Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For 2014, the 14th annual ranking of the cream of Britain’s motivated workforces. It is widely acknowledged as the most searching and extensive research into employee engagement carried out in this country. All the scores and ratings that are assessed to compile the lists are based on employee opinions.

A total of 897 businesses and organisations registered to take part in the four surveys, with the leading 325 recognised in four lists.

SMEs (up to 250 staff) are assessed in The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For (to be published 9 March), with public sector bodies, charities and housing associations in the 100 Best Not-for-Profit Organisations to Work For (to be published 16 March).

Derived from the views of employees

The Sunday Times lists of the Best Companies to Work For 2014 are derived from the views of employees. They rank companies chiefly by eight key indicators of staff engagement:

Leadership: How employees feel about the head of the company and its senior managers

Wellbeing: How staff feel about the stress, pressure and the balance between their work and home duties

Giving something back: How much companies are thought by their staff to put back into society generally and the local community

Personal growth: To what extent staff feel they are stretched and challenged by their job

My manager: How staff feel towards their immediate boss and day-to-day managers

My company: Feelings about the company people work for as opposed to the people they work with

My team: How staff feel about their immediate colleagues

Fair deal: How happy the workforce is with their pay and benefits
