Ashford Castle unveils 30 new guest rooms ahead of St Patrick’s Day

By James Russell: Ashford Castle unveils 30 new guest rooms ahead of St Patrick’s Day

March 13, 2014

The luxurious five-star Ashford Castle, on the shores of Lough Corrib, Co Mayo in the West of Ireland, will unveil 30 new rooms and suites after the completion of the second phase of an ambitious restoration programme on 14 March, in time for St Patrick’s Day.

Set amongst 350 acres and overlooking Lough Corrib in the West of Ireland, Ashford Castle dates back to 1228 and previous owners include the Guinness family. Recently acquired by the family-owned Red Carnation Hotel Collection in June 2013, Ashford is currently undergoing an ambitious 3 phase restoration programme to preserve Ashford’s history and charm while enhancing its guest facilities and levels of luxury and comfort.

The second phase of the restoration programme will be completed this March and Ashford will reopen on 14 March in time for St. Patrick’s Day on 17, with 30 newly refurbished rooms. Ashford Castle’s newly refurbished rooms have each been individually decorated and designed by Mrs Beatrice Tollman, Founder and President of Red Carnation Hotels, and her daughter Toni Tollman with each room featuring a luxurious mix of furnishings and original artwork, with carefully sourced antique furniture, exquisite fabrics, bespoke carpets and marble bathrooms.

Third phase of renovation

Further to the newly renovated rooms, the third and final phase of the renovation will take place from October 2014 – March 2015, during which time the remaining guestrooms will be completed. The ambitious restoration programme will be fully completed by March 2015 in time for Ashford Castle to celebrate its 75th anniversary as a hotel in May 2015.

Once fully completed in 2015 the Castle will include a 32-seat indoor cinema, a billiard room and a cigar terrace, as well as a children’s game room, full service spa and large indoor heated pool. Red Carnation Hotel’s exemplary service ethos of ‘No request too large, no detail too small’ will ensure Ashford Castle will be reinforced as the most luxurious destination hotel in all of Ireland.
