The Varsity Hotel & Spa has launched a newly developed gymnasium and spa concept for 2014.
Located in the heart of beautiful Cambridge, overlooking the river Cam, The Varsity is the perfect lifestyle escape for guests who want to unwind, revive or re-energise, while remaining immersed in the culture and charm of the ancient city.
Unlike many independent hotels that provide only a small gym offering, The Glassworks Spa at The Varsity is a destination wellness centre housed in a beautiful Eighteenth Century glass warehouse, with high ceilings, original brickwork and timber trussed ceiling.
The gymnasium has been carefully designed to recreate a buzzing New York style space, with the latest equipment for an optimum work-out, with personalisation and social features. Functional training suites and touch screen media interfaces set the trend for ease of use and maximum feedback with each session.
For those tiring of a monotonous routine, the kit incorporates touch screens to transport users to picturesque locations, enabling them to take a romantic cycle ride from Paris to Reims, or to make like Bradley Wiggins with a route through the beautiful Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region with its challenging inclines.
2014 also sees the re-launch of the Spa area, with its signature Jacuzzi area that overlooks the river Cam: surely one of the most peaceful spots in all of Cambridge. Heated relaxation benches allow guests to wind down in a luxury mosaic tiled space, before heading into the sauna and steam area, lit to make guests feel that they are relaxing under twinkling stars.
About The Varsity Hotel
The hotel sits amidst the city’s buzzing Quayside area and, backing onto the picturesque River Cam, it is located in one of the most attractive spots in Cambridge. The top two floors of the hotel are made entirely from glass allowing guests breath-taking views of the surrounding area from the comfort of their room, including St John’s College spires, the lush green of Midsummer Common or the punts gliding down the Cam.
The most awe-inspiring feature of The Varsity is its spectacular roof terrace (see view from terrace below), complete with bar, which looks out over Cambridge and provides unparalleled views of the University’s world famous architecture. In the early evening, The Varsity rooftop becomes the most romantic spot in the city, watching the sun set whilst enjoying a champagne cocktail, or a gin and tonic.
The design concept is modern British, juxtaposing the traditional with cutting-edge elements throughout the hotel’s six floors. All interior design elements combine fabrics and wallpapers from Colefax and Fowler, Osborne and Little, Farrow and Ball and other established British names. Although each room is individual, guests can expect to see strong patterned wallpapers from Nineteenth Century English cotton print or botanical influences, solid oak flooring throughout each room, sandstone bathrooms with monsoon showers and some with free standing Victorian baths.
