Nespresso coffee experts have turned to the rich and diverse coffee growing regions of Colombia to create the Spring 2014 Limited Edition Grands Crus duo, the Colombian Terroirs. Nespresso is now inviting Club Members and coffee connoisseurs to experience the new taste sensations offered through the complex and aromatic properties embodied by these latest Limited Editions.
The regions of Cauca and Santander, Colombia
Nespresso coffee experts, skilled in the art of Colombian coffees, sought out green coffee from the regions of Cauca and Santander. These particularly aromatic Arabica beans have vastly different aroma and taste profiles from which the two distinctive Grand Crus have been crafted. The Colombian Terroirs take the concept of Pure Origin Grands Crus one step further by demonstrating the diverse taste experience which can be drawn from Arabica varieties grown in different locations.
Cauca and Santander are two regions at opposite ends of Colombia, where Nespresso has worked hand in hand for many years with farmers under its AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program. It is the close and collaborative nature of the work Nespresso does with these farmers that have enabled it to create these specialised Limited Edition Grands Crus.
Contrasting regions – and tastes
Found in the lush, green, fertile equatorial region of south-west Colombia, where coffee bushes grow on mountain-sides, the Cauca region feels the effects of the equatorial sun. Contrastingly, Santander, to the north-east, is a drier, steeper region surrounded by mountains forming the other end of the Andes Cordillera mountain range. Here, coffee bushes are grown and protected from the high intensity sun by tall trees, resulting in a unique taste profile.
The Cauca Limited Edition Grand Cru is characterised by its fruity, winey aromas and juicy taste, with an intensity level of 6.
The Santander Grand Cru incorporates toasted bread notes with sweet notes of caramel and with a rounded and balanced finish; it has an intensity of 7.
They are both recommended to be enjoyed in a 40ml espresso measure. However, both Colombian Terroirs work well with milk recipes, retaining distinctive taste characteristics when prepared with milk. For the best taste results, Cauca is recommended as a Cappuccino and Santander as a Latte Macchiato.
The Cauca and Santander Limited Edition Grand Crus by Nespresso will be available in early March from Nespresso boutiques throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as through the Nespresso Customer Care Centre on 0800 442 442 and online at www.nespresso.com. A sleeve of the new Grands Crus will sell for an RRP of £3.50 for a sleeve of 10 capsules.
