Karen and David Richards, owners of The Idle Rocks, have acquired a second hotel property in the Cornish seaside village of St Mawes.
The St Mawes Hotel, situated alongside the harbour, is at the hub of the village with an open bar that welcomes all and only 200 yards from The Idle Rocks. The 14 bedroom hotel will be refreshed with a refurbishment planned to finish in time to welcome both hotel guests and village regulars for the summer season.
In line with this purchase, Tim House has been appointed Hotel Director, bringing over 27 years of senior management experience in a number of award-winning hotels including The Savoy Group, The Halcyon, L’Hôtel in Paris and more recently Cowley Manor.
Karen Richards commented: “We are very excited by this new acquisition and particularly pleased that Tim will be joining us to head up both operations. His reputation for bringing out the best in his teams, coupled with his in-depth knowledge of the luxury end of the hospitality industry makes him the perfect choice to move us onto the next level.”
Tim said of his appointment: “I am very much looking forward to working with The Idle Rocks team at this exciting time, supporting the growth of the company and working, once again, on the launch of a new hotel.”
The Idle Rocks, St. Mawes
The Idle Rocks first opened in 1913 and has since seen many incarnations. It became a popular luxury hotel in the pre-WW2 years, continuing to flourish after the war, with St. Mawes being seen as England’s answer to St. Tropez. It was purchased by David and Karen Richards in 2010, and closed in October 2012 for the renovation, re- opening in July 2013. David Richards, previously Chairman of Aston Martin, is a leading entrepreneur in the motor racing world and his wife Karen has designed the hotel’s interiors.
