Amadeus wins Camden Council catering contract

By James Russell: Amadeus wins Camden Council catering contract

January 15, 2014

Amadeus, which is part of the NEC Group, has won its first fixed site catering contract in London. Amadeus will provide catering for the London Borough of Camden at its new public services and council offices building in Kings Cross.

This new contract follows a series of high profile contract wins for Amadeus, including Cadbury World, Library of Birmingham and Town Hall, Birmingham. It further reinforces the new senior management team’s focus on securing fixed site venues to add to the growing portfolio of new business wins for the NEC Group’s catering arm.

£5 million contract

The Camden Council building will house a 100 station community gym, 25m public swimming pool and state of the art library, as well as bringing together most of the council’s service teams under one roof.

Amadeus will manage two cafes at the site, one next to the library for members of the public and the other for council staff, and will invest £250,000 to build and equip the cafes for the five-year contract, which is worth around £5 million in income. Camden Council will benefit from an income share.

The new building has achieved a BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) ‘Outstanding’ certification at design stage. The building is the first of its kind to combine a swimming pool, leisure centre, library, customer access centre, café and office accommodation, and still achieve such a high environmental rating.  This sits well with Amadeus’ own green priorities; British suppliers and sustainability will play a big part in the menu offering when the cafes open in summer 2014.

Amadeus Managing Director, Kevin Watson, said: “We are extremely excited about this contract with London Borough of Camden and look forward to working in partnership to provide quality food for both residents and council employees. The Kings Cross area is undergoing major changes and we are very pleased to have been successful in securing a contract in one of the capital’s up-and-coming districts.  We are looking forward to gaining more business in the area and will be seeking out further growth opportunities.”
