Social Media Workshops drive footfall in pubs for Admiral

By James Russell: Social Media Workshops drive footfall in pubs for Admiral

November 1, 2013

Admiral Taverns is unveiling a sector-leading face-to-face social media course exclusively for their licensees, aimed at engaging with customers and driving people into pubs.

In partnership with ABV Training, Admiral Taverns, the Pub Company of the Year, expects to put 150 of its licensees – almost 20% – through the course over the next 12 months.  The new course is designed to help both beginners and more experienced users of social media set up, plan and implement social media tools and campaigns to drive sales.

Already driving footfall

Suzanne Smith, Head of Licensee Recruitment & Training at Admiral Taverns, said it was important for the company to be at the forefront of tailored social media training for its licensees. And she explained that the workshops, which have just launched, have been well received by licensees across the country and, most importantly, were providing immediate benefits in terms of driving footfall in the pubs.

“We’re very excited to be making this level of support available to our pubs and are delighted that so many licensees are embracing social media as a ‘must do’ tool for their business. It is important for our licensees to utilise platforms such as Facebook and Twitter in a positive way to communicate with their customers and local community.

“The ‘driving sales through social media’ course helps licensees get the most out of these modern marketing tools, while providing more experienced users with new and more diverse skills.”

Showcasing what’s happening

Nicola Black, licensee of The Wuthering Heights, Keighley near Bradford, was someone with little social media experience before the workshops, but has seen both her Facebook likes and Twitter followers materially increase, since implementing the skills she learned from the course.

“After converting the pub’s Facebook page to a business page, I discovered lots of tools to showcase what’s happening at the pub,” explained Nicola. ”For example, I was not aware there was a ‘menu tab’. Now I keep this up to date to drive more customers through the door for their evening meal, or for specific events.

Marketing the pub now a lot easier

“I was daunted by social media before I attended the Admiral workshops, but I have now discovered how easy it is to put something on Twitter and Facebook every day, just by learning how to link the two together. It’s definitely made marketing my pub a lot easier.”

The Admiral social media course is held across two separate days for those running Admiral pubs, with post-workshop support in the weeks afterwards. The workshops cover topics such as setting up social media accounts, ideas on how licensees can improve their social media activity and marketing of events or promotions online, potentially saving large amounts in advertising costs.
