Unlike most travel awards – where a panel of judges or industry pundits have influence over the final results – British Travel Award winners have received their accolades by garnering more consumer votes than their competitors.
When voting for the Awards closed on 30 September, a total of 1,268,458 votes and opinions had been registered across the categories. Media partner, the Trinity Mirror Group, had significantly assisted the achievement of this record number by encouraging voting across their portfolio of publications including five national newspapers, the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, Sunday People, Daily Record and Sunday Mail, both in print and online and also across their major regional titles. The reach of the publications was huge and votes came in from all parts of Great Britain.
There are three hotel categories for which the public voted the winners below.
Best Upscale Luxury Hotel Group
Winner: Small Luxury Hotels of the World
Silver: The Ritz-Carlton
Bronze: Hilton Hotels
Best Mid-scale Hotel Group
Winner: Mercure
Silver: Jurys Inn Hotel Group
Bronze: Menzies Hotels
Best Economy Hotel Group
Winner: Premier Inn
Silver: Ibis Hotels
Bronze: Travelodge
A good night for Accor!
With Mercure winning the mid-scale category, and ibis gaining silver in economy, Accor had an excellent night.
