H20 urban hits high note with new Tune Hotel in E14

By James Russell: H20 urban hits high note with new Tune Hotel in E14

November 18, 2013

H2O Urban, the specialist canalside development partnership between the Canal & River Trust (CRT) and bloc, has secured planning permission to redevelop land at Cannon Drive, Isle of Dogs for a 130 bedroom hotel.  The site – part of CRT’s UK portfolio of landholdings – will be developed by Raag Hotels Limited for a new Tune Hotel.

The planning application secured by H2O Urban will see the redevelopment and extension of a former Port of London police office building and development of a former car park to the front of the Grade 2 listed Cannons Workshop buildings.  To the front of the workshops an area of newly-landscaped public realm will also be created.

Following receipt of planning, the site has been sold on a long lease to Raag Hotels Limited who will start on site this month (November) building the hotel under the Tune brand.  This is their sixth Tune hotel in the UK.

Nicola Tindale, Chief Executive of H2O Urban, said: “Unlocking Canal & River Trust assets and delivering high-quality regeneration is what H2O Urban is all about.  Achieving planning consent at Cannons and the deal with Raag required skilful handling of heritage issues, complex local utilities and challenging site sensitivities.  The fact that we could deliver the deal and a scheme of this quality shows the value, professionalism and effectiveness of our approach.”

H2O Urban is working on a series of regeneration and redevelopment projects across the UK to maximise opportunities with the Canal & River Trust.  It is able to deliver residential, retail, leisure, office and mixed use schemes, focusing on schemes with an end value of up to circa £15 million.
