Nigel Chapman, founder of Luxury Family Hotels, has announced that the group will be offering The Elms Hotel at Abberley in Worcestershire in a full open market sale, to be handled by Martin Rogers of Savills, Exeter.
Chapman commented “This is a fabulous hotel, a stately Queen Anne mansion set in beautiful Worcestershire countryside overlooking the rolling Teme Valley. It has extensive contemporary leisure facilities with exquisite gardens and is within easy reach of a vast hinterland of busy residential and commercial areas. The hotel also has unimplemented planning consents and considerable development opportunity for further guest accommodation and facilities.”
He went on to say, “Since we acquired The Elms in December 2011 we have greatly enjoyed putting this lovely and historic hotel back on its feet but with the market picking up we consider now is an excellent time to pass the reigns to another owner.
“Our other luxury family hotels, closer to London, or in traditional holiday locations, have proved to be so much in demand that it is essential we focus our attention and resources on expansion where the demand from our ‘luxury family’ market is at its greatest.
“We see The Elms as one of the finest original ‘classic’ country house hotels and as such a real trophy for a buyer who wants to add the best to his collection.”
The Elms was first listed in the Good Food Guide in 1954 and was acquired by the Von Essen group from the Vaughan family in 2003. Von Essen added The Elms to its ‘Luxury Family Set,’ following the acquisition of Luxury Family Hotels in 2006. Extensive and luxurious leisure facilities including a spa and indoor swimming pool were then added. In 2012 Chapman, backed by Patron Capital, re-acquired the four original Luxury Family Hotels as well as The Elms, Thornbury Castle and New Park Manor, in Lyndhurst.
