The Chaser Inn in Shipbourne recently welcomed Albert and Michel Roux to cook a charity dinner in aid of Saint Giles Church and Farmers Market.
Brian Whiting, Managing Director of Whiting and Hammond said, “We were overwhelmed with the input from Albert and Michel Roux Jr, the buzz in the kitchen was electric. We were joined by students from the local K College catering department who not only cooked with the Roux’s but also served the food. Everybody was on such a high, and both Albert and Michel Roux Jr were true gentlemen giving up their time, I could see genuine inspiration on the students’ faces. We raised a terrific amount of money for the local church and charity. It certainly was one of our best ever evenings at the Chaser Inn.”
The church and the pub have had a great relationship over the last ten years with hosting a farmers market every Thursday in the grounds, and this memorable meal only used seasonal produce sourced from the Farmers Market.
Fairlawne Ale
The Roux’s have a great association with the area: Michel was born in Shipbourne, and Albert was Head Chef at the nearby Fairlawne Estate when Sir Peter Cazalet trained the Queen Mother’s racehorses. To mark the special occasion and the ten year anniversary for both the Farmers Market and Whiting and Hammond at the Chaser Inn, Greene King have brewed an ale which is sold under the Fairlawne name.
