The Harbourmaster Hotel, the acclaimed Grade II Listed hotel and restaurant in Aberaeron, Ceredigion, is for sale with property adviser Christie + Co seeking £2.7 million for the freehold.
This striking landmark on Aberaeron’s harbourside has 13 bedrooms, 11 of which are doubles. A 50-cover restaurant and bar add to the boutique flavour, while seating outside affords views over the harbour.
The majority of the guest accommodation is housed in the main Harbourmaster building, but there is also the charming Harbourmaster cottage, situated just two doors away and which, like the main building, is Grade II Listed.
As such, the Harbourmaster is popular as a destination for both locals and the many tourists who flock to Cardigan Bay — Britain’s first marine heritage coast. All of which adds to the hotel’s charm — and to its excellent trading record.
Dalmunzie Castle Hotel, Perthshire
This outstanding Scottish baronial hotel (pictured above right) is situated within its own grounds in the Cairngorm National Park in the heart of Scotland. It lies within the Dalmunzie estate and golf course and is close to the Glenshee ski area.
The property was built in 1884 and is a unique baronial style stone built property with many fine features including candle-snuffer turrets. The hotel has 17 bedrooms, a quality restaurant and is popular for both weddings and exclusive house parties. It was previously owned by Scott and Brianna Poole who built up an excellent business over the past eight years. However, following the sudden unexpected loss of Scott last year, Brianna decided to sell the business to devote more time to her family.
The new owner is Dr Roger Aston who is both a scientist and seasoned biotechnology entrepreneur with a successful track record in both fields and who is currently based in Australia. He is Executive Chairman of Pitney Pharmaceuticals Ltd and serves on the Boards of several start-up companies and pharmaceutical companies. The hotel will continue to operate under the management of Nick Jefford and Jennifer Gleeson. Roger and the management team are already drawing up plans for a major investment programme to enhance the position of Dalmunzie as one of the prime castle hotels in Scotland.
Ken Sims, Director of Christie + Co in Edinburgh handled the sale and comments, “While the traditional hotel market has encountered difficulties over the past five years, quality castle hotels have seen strong demand which is evident from the sale of the Von Essen portfolio by Christie + Co last year.
The sale price for Dalmunzie Castle was not disclosed, but it was sold off an asking price of £1.4 million.
