Travelodge refurbishment programme hits 10,000 rooms

By James Russell: Travelodge refurbishment programme hits 10,000 rooms

August 22, 2013

Travelodge is celebrating a major milestone in the implementation of its £57 million refurbishment programme – the completion of its 10,000th room. The nationwide renovation scheme was launched in March 2013 and is the first refurbishment programme to reach this key milestone in such a short period of time across the hotel industry.

50 rooms per day

A 150-strong Travelodge refurbishment team is working around the clock to refurbish 50 rooms every day across the UK, and the 10,000th room has just been refurbished at its Leeds Colton Travelodge hotel.

The scale of the programme means that more than 100 hotels have been refurbished in less than five months with a brand new room design and a luxury bed called the Travelodge Dreamer – which is deemed in the industry as the Rolls Royce of beds.

The programme is on schedule to refurbish half the hotel estate by the year end.

Grant Hearn, Travelodge CEO said: “The magnitude of our refurbishment programme is quite extraordinary and to have refurbished 10,000 rooms in such a short amount of time is groundbreaking.

“Feedback on our new room design has been outstanding which is no real surprise as our customers designed the whole room concept. We are seeing customer satisfaction levels soar, through Trip Advisor as well as on our own feedback channels. There is no doubt that the hero of our new room is the Travelodge Dreamer bed.”

The Travelodge Dreamer bed

The Travelodge Dreamer bed is produced by royal warrant holders Sleepeezee Ltd who are renowned internationally for their experience and craftsmanship in producing the most luxurious beds that money can buy.

The bed boasts a 952 individual pocket sprung mattress. Each individual spring is designed to follow the natural contour of an individual’s body in order to provide the correct amount of support and comfort to ensure they receive a good quality night’s sleep.

For further comfort, the Travelodge Dreamer is dressed with a quilted mattress topper and bounce back duvet & pillows. A new addition to the bedding is a stylish swoosh stripes runner to help create a gift wrap feel to the bed.

The Travelodge Dreamer bed also features a unique benefit of housing two space saving comfortable truckle beds within its base. When the beds are in use the base can be used for storing luggage, providing extra space in the room.  The truckle beds have been designed to replace the traditional sofa bed, and provide an enhanced service for families staying in the room.

The room also features a sleep inducing colour palette in a tranquil blue, as well as stylish swoosh stripes on the curtains.
