Within hours of starting to take reservations, Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café near Borough Market just south of the river Thames has apparently attracted so many reservations that many nights are already fully booked into November and beyond.
Figures quoted are 1,200 reservations in the first half hour alone (there was a time when that would have crashed the system!).
The restaurant opens on 16 September, a month when London looks like enjoying a remarkable number of restaurant openings – it’s not exactly been quiet so far this year – that will be headed in publicity terms by Union Street.
A ‘union’ made in heaven?
Of course, two such celebrities joining forces was and is bound to attract intense media attention, but both Ramsay and Beckham will not want to settle for the publicity alone – they will want recognition for the quality of the Mediterranean-inspired food they serve.
We await the verdict not just of the public – commercial success looks assured, at least in the short-term – but of the critics also…
