So knowing that Millenium Hotels and Resorts are Singaporean owned and they do very authentic Singaporean brasserie/street food at their Bugis Street restaurant at the Millenium Gloucester I knew I couldn’t really go wrong!
Master Chef Chan Kwok who has led the launch of Le Chinois and spent considerable time in London at the restaurant, understanding the food culture, training the team, and creating interesting menus for the international clientele may not have been there on the night but he has certainly trained his chefs well.
Always confused by the amount of dishes on offer we opted for two of the two set menus for the four of us. We were also recommended the Sautéed Prawns coated with Wasabi and these did not disappoint, succulent prawns on cooling pineapple with a hint (not overdone) with the wasabi! The Chengdu Lobster Hot and Sour Soup was a great refresher both hot, sweet and sour and prepared us for the array of main courses, my favourites were the Classic Roast Duck, Sautéed Rib Eye in Black Pepper Sauce and of course everyone favourite Aromatic Crispy Duck with pancakes!
All this was washed down with a great Alberino from Rias Baixas and followed by what I would certainly call more Western desserts of Apple Tarte Tartin served with Ice Cream and Crème Brûlée
Service might have been a little inattentive at times but I would recommend a trip to try Master Chef Chan Kwok’s cuisine at Le Chinois and enjoy a stroll and window shop down Sloane Street!
