Mail Online has reported that Gordon Ramsay Holdings is the subject of an investigation by HMRC, after suggestions that HMRC officials were misled during a previous probe.
Apparently, a ‘whistleblower’ leaked an internal document to the taxman that alleges that an unpaid tax bill – a seven-figure sum – was covered up during a previous investigation in 2010.
The leaked document is alleged to have been written by Trevor James, former finance director of the TV chef’s restaurant empire, who had previously worked for HMRC.
Ramsay denies any wrongdoing and is reported to have employed consultants Deloitte to act for him and his company and clear accusations that the full truth had not been told to HMRC in the previous investigation, and also that the staff tips fund had been misused.
