Record results for Bettys & Taylors

By James Russell: Record results for Bettys & Taylors

July 15, 2013

Yorkshire family business Bettys & Taylors Group Limited has confirmed record results for the financial year ended 31st October 2012, with turnover grown by 14% to £133.2m and profit before tax increased by £2.2m to reach £10m, for the first time in the company’s history. Bettys & Taylors’ record performance follows a year of strong sales growth across the two businesses.

Group Finance & Resources Director, Paul Cogan, said: “In difficult times, people turn to businesses and brands that they can trust; where quality is never compromised and which consistently offer good value for money.  It means a great deal to us that customers continue to choose to purchase a good cup of Yorkshire Tea or a delicious Bettys cake.”

Based in Harrogate, Bettys & Taylors takes pride in its dedication to craft skills and quality, ethical trading relationships, and its commitment to being environmentally responsible. The Group comprises family tea and coffee merchant Taylors of Harrogate, six Bettys Café Tea Rooms, Bettys Online Shop, Craft Bakery and Bettys Cookery School, and supports the communities it operates within. Over the year, the Group contributed £356,000 to charitable and community projects in Yorkshire and in tea and coffee growing countries.

Bettys & Taylors continue to share its success with staff and in 2012 all 1,293 employees received the equivalent of an additional six weeks pay through the Group Profit Share Scheme. The Scheme has been operating for 30 years and recognises the contribution of staff across the business.

About Bettys

Bettys was founded in 1919 when Frederick Belmont, a talented and ambitious Swiss confectioner, arrived in Yorkshire, married a local girl and opened his first Bettys Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate.

Bettys joined forces with Taylors 50 years ago. Taylors blends Yorkshire Tea, the third best selling tea in the UK, as well as Taylors market leading roast and ground coffees, and a range of speciality teas.

Bettys & Taylors is still owned by Frederick’s family, now into the fourth generation of shareholders. The family are committed to family ownership for the long term and ensuring that the business continues to grow in a way that respects the planet and communities in which it works.
